We Rock Your Trail
This section along the Appalachian Trail has a very steep incline where hikers had to scramble up and over a rock face. Previous attempts at adding a wood ladder failed. Then an aluminum ladder was installed but it really didn’t fit in. A plan was devised to add a rung ladder right into the rock face. The work site is off the road about 1 mile so we used a wheel barrow to transport a heavy generator and electric hammer drill. At the end of day one and being a remote area we decided to leave the generator there and cover it with a heavy duty plastic bag. When we arrived the following day we were surprised to find claw marks and large tears in the plastic bag. It looked like a bear had checked out the generator. On day 2 the holes needed to be drilled were too high off the ground to reach so we used a harness and repeled down from the top. Sam new to the harness did a great job. After drilling all the holes we cut the rungs to fit and epoxied them into place.
